Media Treatment 1:
Band Name:-Friendly Fires
Track Name: - Paris
Star Image: - I think that the image of this band should convey their easygoing yet passion towards their music. I think to appeal to a main stream audience aging from 15-30 they should have an ‘indie’ look to the band.
Treatment for the video:-
There should be two different elements to the video. One should be shot in high contrast black and white of the band rehearsing together in a studio, laughing and messing around together. This should have a high white balance, showing darker black shadows. In these studio scenes, the band should be laughing together in which the camera should capture close up shots of the different band members to express how much the band enjoy each others company and playing these songs together. As theses scenes are shot in black and white it gives the effect that theses are a sense of memories in the time they spent creating the music for their performance. I think that to make the video more personal, the band could use a handheld camera in this scene, and video each other playing around. This for the audience will allow us to get to know the individual band members personally, as if we are apart of the band playing and messing around too.
This should be cut back to throughout the music video, in which the band should be playing on a stage, or doing an actual performance. This should be shot in colour again using close up shots of the band but this time more focused in the music that they are playing, including the use of blinder lights on the stage and maybe the use of smoke screen machines to show how far the band have come from just playing together.
I think the video should end of the band on the stage putting down their instruments and walking off stage to cut back to reveal an empty black and white rehearsal studio.
Media Treatment 2
Band Name: - Laura Marling
Track Name: - New Romantic
Star Image: - A young female artist early 20s, acoustic soloist singing with her guitar. She has no strong political messages in her songs, but sings of the sorrows and pains of her life. Her ‘indie’ and unique style should be expressed in her videos, however, she is not an overpowering female, but shows a more relaxed approach. In her clothes she should have a more unique and endearing style of dress, maybe in her videos not wear shoes and be barefooted to express her now vulnerability.
Treatment of the music video:-
I think that as this singer is singing about the misfortunes and pains of her love, all our attention should be on her. I think in this video all our focus should remain on the artist. I think that she should remain in an isolated area just singing with her guitar. I think for a more dramatic effect we should not see the whole of the artists face until the end of the video. The video could be shot at night in an empty playground and just have the street lamps as the only form of light. The camera could cut to extreme close up of the artists’ lips as she sings and then cut to an extreme close up of her eye and it sheds a tear. The camera should continuously cut back to wide shots of her sitting isolated in the playground, to show how she feels so alone after she has been heartbroken. At the end of the video she could go leave her guitar and go over to the swings and swing alone.
Band name:- Jack Penate
Track name:- Torn on the platform
Star Image:- This should be a 4 man band appealing to the mainstream audience of 15-30 of an alternative indie pop or rock music genre. Their image should be kept to be quite relaxed and not have any strong political views.
Treatment for video:- I think this video should primarily focus on key word of the track song, ‘torn,’ both metaphorically in the relationship with a girl has been torn and a literal tearing of a letter as the backdrop, which is torn. In this, I think the backdrop of the video should be a letter or photograph which has been from the girl that he loved. This photograph or letter should be torn or ripped at the sides conveying the relationship has ended and to show the anger over what has happened. The band however are filmed as they are playing their song within a studio enjoying themselves. These shots of the band should be imposed over the letter or photograph, so none of the words or faces can be seen but instead all our concentration is on the band.
